Willetta Lueshen Bird Library
at the Elkhorn Valley Museum & Research Center
515 Queen City Boulevard
Norfolk NE 68701
The Willetta Lueshen Bird Library, founded in 1997, is unique to Northeast Nebraska. The Library has been given by John Lueshen of Wisner as a memorial to his late wife, Willetta, who was well known for her interest in birds and nature.
She taught a class on birds at Northeast Community College for many years introducing hundreds of people to birding. The “Lueshen’s Birders” a local organization was named for her.
Special videos and activities are available for all ages of students and are based on educational themes and objectives. Please contact the Lueshen’s Birders for special arrangements for visits so we can tailor your visit to meet the educational goals and interests of your class.
Tour Options and Bird Watching
While the Willetta Lueshen Bird Library’s main emphasis is bird study, we also offer multidisciplinary opportunities in the study of butterflies and other insects, wildflowers and the natural environment of our area.
Use binoculars to enjoy the natural habitat of Verges Park and birds feeding through the library’s observation windows.
